Ethicists say Killing Babies is OK

This article made my blood boil.

Parents should be allowed to have their newborn babies killed because they are “morally irrelevant” and ending their lives is no different to abortion, a group of medical ethicists linked to Oxford University has argued.

What can I say. These people live on another planet. How can their world view be so completely up side down. No wonder that there can be no real conversation between a pro baby killer and a pro life person. We live in totally different universes.

It is simply inconceivable to a normal person that anyone would think this to be anything other than horribly insane morally dead idea. (I qualify normal with a person who thinks that KILLING a baby is wrong)

I bet you the same thinking went on in the minds of Germans when they tried to justify to themselves that killing Jews and other minorities was OK because they are not really persons.

These people are insane.

Contraception mentality leads to this. You start with treating a baby as a disease that needs to be prevented. You than get shocked if you get pregnant while on contraception and seek other ways to get rid of the baby disease. Abortion becomes simply removing of a blob of tissue. Baby becomes fetus. A potential human. If the baby killers at the abortion clinic mess up and the baby does not die then what can we do we must kill it outside of the womb. It is not a person after all. It’s a disease.

INSANE.

Eifelheim by Michael Flynn

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Eifelheim is a first contact story unlike any that I have ever read. The aliens appear in a 14th century small German village just before the Black Death.

How would the people of that time react to seeing strange creatures? Were they demons send by God to punish the sins of the people? Were they humans from far away land? Do they have souls?

I was impressed by the level of detail the author went into to describe the living conditions at that time. He did an excellent job trying to convey the events from the point of view of a person from that time period.

The world view back then was deeply Christian. People really believed and lived their lives accordingly. They had to struggle with the new arrivals, try to understand them using only the knowledge they had at that time.

Great read.

Happy Catholic: Glimpses of God in Everyday Life by Julie Davis
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book made me happy. What else could I ask for.

Julie Davis gives us a gem here. This book is a collections of quotes with reflections from not only the scriptures or Catholic Superstars but from other um less “catholic” sources. You will see quotes from cartoons, books, TV shows and movies. She has a unique ability to find catholic things in all places.

This isn’t a book where you can just read it in one seating even though I did read big chunks of it at a time. This is a book that should be enjoyed with small sips. Like wine.

Seeing God in everyday life is an important gift to have and Julie Davis has it big time.

I highly recommend it.

Blood Rites by Jim Butcher

Another Dresden book.

In this instalment we have a lot more vampires and family related plot lines. We finally know why Thomas is so nice to our favourite wizard.

The story itself was weaker than the previous few books. There didn’t seem to be anything threatening the destruction of the world. Dresden still managed to get beat up a lot and even almost lost a hand.

The book does get some points for opening with a scene where Dresden has to rescue some puppies from a burning building. Yes really that’s how the book starts. Puppies with big eyes in a fire and a wizard rescuing them, with giant monkey monsters throwing flaming poop at him.

Overall a descent entry into the series but I think I’m getting a bit burned out reading about wizards and vampires and such. I think I will take a small break from the world of Dresden. Not to worry I will return.

I’ve been trying to memorise the Latin version of the “Our Father” for the better part of the last 3 months. I read it daily in Latin in the evening but for the life of me I can’t seem to remember it the next morning without peaking at the text.

I was never good with memorizing things but this is ridiculous. It is a short prayer! My brain should be able to remember it.

My overall goal was to learn most of the major prayers in Latin so that I can be a cool Catholic. Judging from my initial efforts it will take years for me to accomplish this.

I must be getting old.

PATER NOSTER, qui es in caelis, sanctificetur nomen tuum. Adveniat regnum tuum. Fiat voluntas tua, sicut in caelo et in terra. There really is something to this. I find that when ever I make a conciousness effort to see my work as part of God’s plan, I slack off a lot less and even the most boring tasks do not seem so bad.

If I forget this than it is all down hill for me. I get bored and annoyed and easily distracted. Maybe I should tape this simple message to my monitor that way I will not forget.
